It is a superb low-volume plastic coil binding machine rated to punch up to ten sheets of 20 lb. paper at a time, however, is recommended at six to eight sheets. It features a binding slot on the inserting table, which aids in the inserting of the spiral binding coil for a faster and more efficient bind. The RubiCoil also has a “U” shaped handle for maximizing punching strength and features hardened steel punching dies for clean and precise holes every time. The RubiCoil is also very user friendly, and completes your book quickly with a few simple steps. First, jog your papers to be punched so that they are aligned. Take your entire book and loosely place it into the coil diameter selector on the front of the machine. This tool tells you what size spiral binding coil you will need. Next, select a stack of no more than 10 sheets (when using 20 lb paper) and insert the binding edge into the punching throat where the holes are labeled. Adjust the paper guide to ensure your holes will be centered on the book (you might want to test a sample sheet first). Pull the punching handle down until it pierces through the sheets. Remove your stack and insert your spiral binding coil into the first 3 or 4 holes. Place the book onto the binding table with the spiral binding coil in the binding slot. Hold your book in place with one hand and use the other to roll the spiral coil all the way through the remaining holes. Use your cutter/crimper pliers to cut and crimp both ends of the coil, finishing your bind.
Because the RubiCoil is a 100% manual punching and binding machine, it is not ideal where high speed production is necessary. Manually inserting the coil is considered the most tedious task when spiral binding. While the binding slot makes inserting much easier, the RubiCoil is still ideal for only low-volume users binding less than about ten books at a time. For higher quantities, a larger production machine might be required.
