The ceramic mug is a type of cup that typically will hold hot beverages because of the handle that keeps your hand from burning while holding the mug. Most often you will see ceramic cups holding tea, coffee and hot chocolate but some people like to put soup in their cups and drink it like that. Mugs must have a handle to be called a mug, and usually the mug will hold about 12 fluid ounces or 350 milliliters, which is double what a tea cup will hold.
In the past, mugs were made from wood, bone or clay but the modern mug is made mostly by ceramic materials which can include earthenware, bone, china, porcelain and stoneware. Pyrex, which is a strengthened type of glass, is also sometimes used. One of the great things about ceramic mugs is that it is easy to put silk screen printing on the mug to display a company name and logo. Each image and wording is fired onto a mug to ensure that the image and wording will not come off over time.
A very unique type of ceramic mug is the Tiki mug. The Tiki mug is a drinking mug that came around in the mid-20th century. Each mug features a sculptured drink that depicts the image of Tiki gods from Polynesia, Micronesia or Melanesia. Anything tropical is typically featured on the mugs and they serve as a way for people to escape away from their day-to-day lives through the tropical and beautiful Tiki mugs. The only problem with the Tiki mug is that the sculpturing on the mug makes it a bit more difficult to put your company name and logo on them. If you can though, do so, because Tiki mugs are highly sought after and collected. It is also a very unique type of mug that will get your customers using them over and over and therefore showing off your company name and logo to other people over the course of the lifespan of the Tiki mug.
